Liberal Democrats select Charlotte Cane to fight for Ely and East Cambridgeshire at General Election
The Liberal Democrats have selected Charlotte Cane for Ely and East Cambridgeshire as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a General Election.
Liberal Democrat candidate Charlotte Cane will be campaigning for action to tackle the cost of living crisis, the NHS crisis and the sewage scandal.
BBC analysis shows that we would have come a strong second in 2019 on the new constituency boundary. We have five County and eighteen District Councillors in this constituency, more than the Conservatives and Labour have none. We won all three of the local by-elections in Ely this April and May.
The Liberal Democrats are on the up after beating the Conservatives at the May local elections and winning four stunning parliamentary by-election victories since the last General Election.
Responding to Rishi Sunak calling a General Election, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Ely and East Cambridgeshire, Charlotte Cane said:
“For years our area has been taken for granted by an out-of-touch Conservative Government that has failed to get the basics right and lurched from crisis to crisis - now it’s time for a change.
“Talking to people across the constituency they tell me that they want shorter waits to see their GP or for hospital appointments. Some people have been waiting over a year in increasing pain for much needed operations. They want our rivers to be free of sewage and they want the government to protect them against rising food, energy and housing costs. If I am elected as our local MP I will fight for investment in our NHS, for water companies to clean up our rivers and for a fair deal.”
“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a fair deal. It’s a vote for a party that will stand up for our community and our health services.”
