100 Days Since Election Win – Charlotte Cane MP Puts NHS, Environment, and Cost of Living as “Top Priorities”
Liberal Democrat MP Charlotte Cane has marked her hundredth day in office by placing the NHS, environmental protection, and tackling the cost of living at the top of her priority list for Ely and East Cambridgeshire.
In July, MP hopeful Charlotte Cane pledged to mend the NHS, protect the environment, and support constituents struggling with rising living costs as part of her campaign to become Ely and East Cambridgeshire’s local champion in Parliament. Today – just 100 days since she won the election – these issues remain the MP’s top priorities.
In her first 100 days, Charlotte has met with local healthcare providers, including Cambridge University Hospitals, GPs, and pharmacies, to discuss recruitment challenges and ensure that local healthcare services are adequately funded. She has also led calls for fairer GP funding for Cambridgeshire alongside neighbouring MPs.
Alongside fellow Liberal Democrat MPs, Charlotte presented the Climate & Nature Bill petition in Downing Street, and voted against sewage dumping during the debate on the King's Speech. She also actively endorsed the Back British Farming campaign and met with local farmers to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the agricultural sector.
With the cost of living in mind, Charlotte voted against plans to take the Winter Fuel Payment from thousands of pensioners in this constituency and in favour of scrapping the two-child cap on benefits which traps many local children in poverty. She also supported Ely Foodbank’s Harvest appeal for help to support local residents reliant on food parcels and suffering loneliness and isolation.
Charlotte highlighted that one of the most important aspects of her first 100 days in office has been the opportunity to assist local residents. Her office has taken on 372 cases across the constituency so far, responding to concerns and listening to people’s needs.
Charlotte Cane, Liberal Democrat MP for Ely and East Cambridgeshire, said:
“My first 100 days as MP have been about listening, learning, and taking action on the issues that matter most to Ely and East Cambridgeshire. It’s clear that our community faces serious challenges, whether it’s the strain on local healthcare, environmental concerns, or the rising cost of living.
“The work on tackling the NHS recruitment crisis and protecting our local environment is just beginning, and there are no quick fixes after years of failure under previous governments. But I’m determined to keep pressing for solutions that will make a lasting difference for my constituents.
“Much remains to be done, but I’m committed to continuing the fight for the people of Ely and East Cambridgeshire. I’ll keep pushing for change and working to ensure that the voices of our community are heard in Parliament—not just during election season, but every single day.”
